College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 4 – Clemson makes statement
By Zach Bigalke
Kansas State went to Starkville on Saturday and played their way into the AP Top 25 after winning their intersectional Power Five showdown 31-24 against Mississippi State. Down 24-17 after a 47-yard Jace Christmann field goal early in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats mounted a 14-point comeback and kept the Bulldogs out of the endzone in the final frame for the turnaround victory.
The Wildcats defense forced three Tommy Stevens turnovers, as the Penn State transfer threw a pair of interceptions and coughed up a fumble over the course of the game. Stevens finished just 7-of-15 for 100 yards and a touchdown to go with the two picks, though he also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Skylar Thompson outdueled his counterpart, finishing 10-of-18 for 123 yards and a touchdown and adding a rushing score of his own.
Now locked in the Top 25, Kansas State welcomes Kentucky to Manhattan in Week 4 for a Wildcats-on-Wildcats showdown. That game will determine how high Chris Klieman’s team can climb up the polls ahead of Big 12 play.
