20. leading 28-10 vs. FCS Portland State. NEXT: 9/20 vs. Air Force. Boise State Broncos. player. 895. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Boise State was leading by 18 points at the start of the third quarter against FCS Portland State at the time of publication. As long as the Broncos hold on to secure a victory over the Vikings, they will remain somewhere in the low 20s of the AP Top 25 heading into a key Week 4 showdown on Friday night against fellow Mountain West unbeaten Air Force.

Freshman quarterback Hank Bachmeier had more than 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns before halftime, as the Broncos shook off a slow start to begin running up the score on their Oregonian visitors before the intermission.

After the conference opener at home against Air Force, Boise State gets a well-deserved bye week before diving headlong into conference play to start October. Given the way UCF has played, it is going to be hard for the Broncos to overtake the Knights in the Group of Five race for a New Year’s Six bid. But Bryan Harsin’s team is hovering right in the wings ready to pounce if UCF does falter at some point.
