846. won 31-24 at Houston. NEXT: 9/21 vs. UCLA. Washington State Cougars. 19. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Anthony Gordon had yet another huge game for Washington State on Friday night, throwing for 440 yards and three touchdowns as the Cougars downed Houston 31-24 at home to move to 3-0 on the season. Gordon went 36-of-48 as the home team overcame a 14-7 deficit at halftime to pull ahead for good in the third quarter.

While the run game has never been a big part of a Mike Leach offense, but against Houston it was especially absent. Max Borghi led the way with nine carries for 40 yards and a touchdown, but the rest of the team managed only nine more yards on 10 additional carries. As it has been since Leach came to Pullman, the Cougars will live and die by their aerial attack.

The defense kept D’Eriq King in check, holding the Houston quarterback to 128 passing yards and 94 rushing yards with three touchdowns. As a result, they will climb up a few spots into the high teens of this week’s AP Top 25. Next week Washington State stays home to face a hapless UCLA team reeling another 0-3 start.
