2020 NFL Mock Draft, Week 3: First-round projections – Justin Herbert rising?
The jury is still out on whether the Kliff Kingsbury/Kyler Murray pairing will work in Arizona. Early returns have been mixed, but this will be a multiple year experiment for the Cardinals organization. In order to make sure that Murray can effectively run the Air-Raid system in the NFL, Kingsbury and the Arizona front office will have to continue to shore up the offensive line.
Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs is probably the most physically gifted offensive lineman in the 2020 class. At an imposing 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, Wirfs has the prototypical size of a franchise NFL tackle. He’s also got outstanding footwork, with a strong ability to move up to the second level in the running game. He’s a perfect fit to protect a nimble quarterback like Murray.
Wirfs has incredible physical gifts, but he’s also a polished player in terms of his technique and footwork. The only potential concern is that he has spent his Iowa career at right tackle, which could give scouts pause as they wonder if he can shift over and be the franchise left tackle you look for at this spot in the draft.
Wirfs has all the tools to make that shift, and be a dominant left tackle for a decade or more for Arizona.
