College Football 2019: Top 5 games with playoff implications in Week 4
1. Notre Dame at Georgia (Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. ET – CBS)
There was no doubt that this game was going to be tops on the list this weekend. CBS made a special night time slot for it and the whole college football world will be watching.
The Irish and the Dawgs are both in the top ten and are fighting for what might be the most impressive win of the season so far. If Notre Dame can win on the road in Athens it will be on its way to threatening a second consecutive playoff bid and spoiling it for a potential conference champion. If Georgia can notch the win it will have one of the most impressive non-conference victories of the entire year in its back pocket come playoff time.
Both teams have crushed their opponents in their games this year so we should be getting the very best that these programs have to offer come Saturday night.
As far as impacts on making the playoff, Notre Dame needs this win the most. Notre Dame lacks a conference championship game so a loss here would require some serious disaster relief to still make the playoff.
Georgia has a bit more room in that regard, especially since this isn’t a conference game for the Bulldogs and they can still control their own destiny to get to Atlanta. Still, a loss would not bode well if it at the end of the season it comes down to a head-to-head comparison between these two clubs.
Unless we see any major upsets this weekend we aren’t likely to be eliminating any major contenders. But we will start to see some separation between the tiers.
