Pac-12 Football Power Rankings, Week 4: Is USC a pretender?
By Kyle Grondin
Arizona got its second win in a row, beating Texas Tech 28-14. It was a hard-fought game which Khalil Tate and Co. were able to pull out as he added an 84-yard touchdown to win.
Arizona is an interesting team. If the Wildcats showed up in the first half against Hawaii, it’s probable that they’re in the contenders section, and they still might prove me wrong. But a defense that can nicely be put as leaky, and a knack for turning the ball over, it’s hard to see the Wildcats putting up a fight against the top of the conference.
The Buffaloes fooled me in this one. They looked like a sleeper, smelled like a sleeper, but came out a pretender after dropping a game to Air Force.
I know it’s a big rivalry game, and Colorado can easily bounce back from this game with that offensive performing on all cylinders.
However, the defense has given up 93 points through three games, and that is just something that cannot continue to happen to a contender.
Kedon Slovis fell back to earth, and this Trojan team proved itself more than likely middle of the pack against BYU.
They still had some positives, they totaled 452 yards of offense, and still moved the ball really well in the listing effort.
But the fact of the matter remains the same, in the win over Stanford, USC took care of the ball and were a phenomenal team. In the other two games, the team turned the ball over often, and looked pretty average.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier from here on out.
The Sun Devils miraculously are still undefeated this season. They totaled just 216 yards of offense and only 14 first downs and still won a game at Michigan State, 10-7.
Now the game had a major officiating error, and they definitely should’ve lost to the Spartans in this one, but this team is still undefeated.
This team is a pretender for me, I just don’t see them competing with the top of the conference. Jayden Daniels has proven himself a winner thus far, but no matter what, they are ranked and competing every game.
