3. Justin McMillan almost cost Tulane the game

Tulane’s starting quarterback, Justin McMillan, is the reason why they are one of the considered one of the best Group of Five teams in the country. He is an explosive, dual-threat quarterback that makes defenses prepare especially different. However, he is not without fault.

There were numerous times throughout this game where McMillan missed wide open receivers. Many of these missed passes were egregious overthrows that occurred even when he was not under pressure from defensive players. This lack of pressure was a direct result of the atrocious play from the Houston defense.

Had McMillan completed multiple critical third down passes to open receivers, the Green Wave would have beat the Cougars by multiple scores.

McMillan finished the game with only seven completed passes out of 20 and had many tosses nearly picked off. By the grace of Houston’s terrible tackling ability, the Tulane Green Wave pulled out the last minute victory.
