Notre Dame football comes in as a heavy underdog against Georgia, but there are a few legitimate reasons why the Irish could pull off a win this weekend.

It’s felt like quite some time since the Irish’s 2017 loss to Georgia. While the loss wasn’t a nail in the coffin in 2017, it was a loss that highlighted quite a few flaws that would eventually be preyed upon in future losses to Miami and Stanford, the first of which effectively ended the Irish’s 2017 playoff hopes.

In regard to playoff contention, one loss (especially a close one), might not mean doom for the Irish’s postseason chances in 2019. However, with USC, Virginia Tech, and Stanford struggling early, the Irish may have little competition to rely on if Virginia and Michigan stumble as well.

With that said, it truly is in Notre Dame’s best interest to pull out a victory this weekend. Playing at Georgia makes things exponentially more difficult, but the Irish have shown us a few things this season that may be advantageous for their success on the field against the Bulldogs.
