College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 5 – Wisconsin rising
By Zach Bigalke
Michigan is definitely due for a fall after their 35-14 loss at No. 13 Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon, but the Wolverines probably will not fall completely out of the teens in the AP Top 25 given the two teams were evenly matched in the polls. Jim Harbaugh’s crew will remain somewhere between No. 16 and No. 19 when everything is complete in Week 4 play and the newest poll is released on Sunday.
The Wolverines have some soul-searching to do after this weekend, however. Michigan’s offense struggled to do much on the field. The running game managed to compile just 40 yards on 19 carries, with the longest carry of the day going for nine yards. Three quarterbacks combined to go 17-of-42 for 259 yards with a pair of touchdowns and a pair of interceptions, while the defense coughed up nearly 500 yards of offense to the Badgers.
Michigan should rebound without much trouble next weekend against Rutgers at home. A home date with Iowa on the first weekend of October will serve as a truer litmus test of whether this year’s Wolverines squad can truly contend in the Big Ten and whether they can maintain a spot in the AP Top 25 moving forward.
