Texas A&M Aggies. 21. 873. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. lost 28-20 vs. No. 8 Auburn. 9/28 at Arkansas

Texas A&M is going to tumble just a few spots into the 20s of the AP Top 25 this week, but the Aggies won’t fall completely out of the poll after pulling back within a single score of No. 8 Auburn to lose 28-20 at the final whistle. A failed onside kick prevented the Aggies from a shot at tying the game in the final minutes, but the loss won’t prove fatal for their shot at staying in the rankings.

Kellen Mond was solid in the defeat, throwing for 335 yards and a pair of scores on 31-of-49 passing. Mond also led the team in rushing, though that was far less impressive. The quarterback carried nine times for 26 yards on a day when the Aggies finished with only 56 rushing yards as a team. The lack of a ground game hurt the Aggies in the long run, even as they held the advantage in time of possession and total first downs.

Texas A&M heads on the road next weekend for another SEC West test in Fayetteville against Arkansas. The Aggies then get a bye at the beginning of October before welcoming Alabama to College Station. Wins in their next two games would launch Jimbo Fisher’s team right back up the Top 25 right before the College Football Playoff selection committee releases their first list of the season.
