College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 5 – Wisconsin rising
By Zach Bigalke
For much of the game against Old Dominion, the Cavaliers looked in danger of dropping a home date against a Group of Five opponent and falling completely out of the AP Top 25. But Bronco Mendenhall’s team came back to secure a 28-17 victory at home to move to 4-0 in the standings, ensuring they will remain in the rankings for their trip to South Bend next weekend.
Bryce Perkins was 15-of-24 for 175 yards and a touchdown, and he added a rushing score over the course of the comeback. The Cavaliers ground game struggled as a unit, ending the game with just 69 yards on 29 carries. They did, however, add another touchdown to the one chipped in on the ground by Perkins.
If they can get past Notre Dame next week, the Cavaliers are destined to launch up the Top 25. After the test against the Fighting Irish, Virginia gets a bye at the beginning of October before they dive back into ACC play with a trip south to face Miami. With two conference wins already in the books, Virginia is in great position to play in the ACC title game this season if they keep winning.
