2. Virginia needs to figure out the run game

Virginia struggled yet again on the ground against Old Dominion, as the team’s Achilles’ heel through three games reared its ugly head once more.

Through four games, the weakness of Virginia has clearly been on the ground, but the ‘Hoos have been winning despite the inconsistency in the running game.

Virginia found pay dirt twice on the ground on Saturday night against Old Dominion, but rushed for a mere 69 yards on 29 carries as a team, “good” for a 2.4 yards per carry average.

While it didn’t end up playing a huge factor on Saturday night against the Monarchs, Virginia will need to become more balanced as an offense as they begin to face tougher competition.

The Cavaliers face Notre Dame next Saturday in South Bend, and dive head first into ACC play thereafter.

The schedule will present more competent defenses in the near future, and the rushing offense will need to improve holistically in order for the Cavaliers to fulfill their Coastal aspirations.
