College Football 2019: 5 big things we learned from Week 4 action
4. Michigan has hit lowest point in Jim Harbaugh’s tenure
Michigan didn’t just lose a football game on Saturday, it was completely dominated for four quarters. It wasn’t a hard fought loss that you can find a silver lining to. Jim Harbaugh just his his lowest point in Ann Arbor.
The Badger offense completely had its way with Don Brown’s defense. Wisconsin piled up 359 rushing yards, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. Jonathan Taylor had 203 of those yards on 23 touches.
Badger quarterback Jack Coan only had to throw the ball 16 times on the way to Wisconsin’s 35-point effort.
It’s not just the dominance on the stat line though. Sometimes you get out-coached and outplayed, but you can keep your head up because you played hard and you never quit. That isn’t the case for Michigan’s performance on Saturday.
It’s especially discouraging to look ahead. If that same Michigan team shows up at the end of the year, the game with Ohio State could get downright ugly. Notre Dame also comes to Ann Arbor, and the Irish just showed they could hang around with Georgia. What does that mean for the Wolverines?
Those aren’t the only good teams left on Michigan’s schedule. If Harbaugh’s team doesn’t improve soon, things could keep going downhill in Ann Arbor.
