TCU football: 3 takeaways from blowout win vs. Kansas in Week 5
By Phil Poling
1. Gary Patterson is still an elite coach
After going 7-6 a season ago and dropping last week’s game to SMU, plenty had written TCU off. But rarely does a Gary Patterson-coached put together back-to-back seasons that fans in Fort Worth are disappointed with.
Only once in his TCU coaching career has Patterson won less than 10 games in back-to-back seasons — 2012 (7-6) and 2013 (4-8). Every other time he’s posted fewer than double-digit wins, his Horned Frogs have bounced back with 10 or more victories.

It should be expected from Patterson at this point, honestly. I mean, the guy’s coached for 20 years with one 10-win season, seven 11-win seasons, two 12-win seasons and one 13-win season. He’s a top 10 coach in college football, and if you think otherwise, I’d love to hear your list. It’ll be incomplete without him, but you can try and find 10 better ones.
With road trips to Iowa State and Kansas State on the upcoming slate before hosting Texas, we’ll get to see what the 2019 TCU Horned Frogs are made of. Dominating Kansas doesn’t mean they’ll run the table and win the Big 12, though, but it presents Patterson with another opportunity to add to his growing resume.
