2020 NFL Mock Draft, Week 6: Chase Young takes top spot
By Phil Poling
The Washington Redskins are another team with holes-a-plenty to fill, but it’s possible quarterback isn’t one of them. They added Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins in the middle of the 2019 NFL Draft, and although he’s yet to start, it’s time to think about protecting that asset. Selecting Georgia lineman Andrew Thomas would do just that.
The 6-foot-5 junior has been a staple at tackle for the Bulldogs, starting all 15 games on the right as a freshman and 13 more at left as a sophomore. He’s been named to various All-American teams over the course of his career, including the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated, and Walter Camp.
Washington would be smart to add weapons that Haskins can get the ball to, but if he doesn’t have time to throw, it won’t matter who’s on the receiving end. Thomas will help keep Haskins upright, but he’ll also be able to clear holes in the running game for former LSU running back and 2018 second-round pick Derrius Guice.
This is the farthest thing from a sexy pick for Washington fans, but they’ll appreciate Thomas down the road when their quarterback is healthy and playing for a long time.
