2020 NFL Mock Draft, Week 6: Chase Young takes top spot
By Phil Poling
The Oakland Raiders had an eventful 2019 draft under new GM and head coach Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden. They opted to draft proven, veteran players in Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell and Alabama’s Josh Jacobs, and they could do so again in 2020 with LSU safety Grant Delpit on the board at No. 7.
Delpit’s been considered a top college talent since arriving in Baton Rouge, and dawning the famous No. 7 jersey at LSU’s only added to his resume. Only great players wear No. 7 at LSU — Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, Leonard Fournette in recent years — and Delpit currently holds the number.
In addition to being a great leader, Delpit’s proven he can do it all on the field, too. He can defend the pass, routinely locking up tight ends and running backs, while also playing the run and rushing the passer with great success. He’s a hard hitter, too, something Raider fans will fall in love with, but his versatility is an added bonus that should help the team find their identity.
Delpit is a safety, but for an aging Oakland defense — especially on the second level — the 6-foot-3 Delpit could see some time as a linebacker in the box.
