4. Cal at No. 13 Oregon (Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET – FOX)

Turns out Cal was ranked a bit too high last week since a close loss to Arizona State, who is now ranked, dropped the Golden Bears from No. 15 all the way out of the rankings. Seems a bit fishy to me.

I think Cal is a better team than ESPN’s FPI is giving it credit for. Currently, the Golden Bears have a 7.4 percent chance to beat the Ducks this weekend. Had Cal beaten Arizona State last weekend this would be roughly a No. 15 vs. No. 13 matchup. I find it hard to believe Cal would have a 7.4 percent chance to win in that case. But I digress.

The weekly battle for the Pac 12 seems to be about if it can get through the weekend with a legit College Football Playoff contender. Oregon is the latest hope, after Washington, Utah, Washington State, and Cal have all passed up their chances to grab the reigns, with its ranking and just one loss to a really strong Auburn team.

The rest of the Pac 12 has losses within the conference which surely won’t hold up as well to the committee. The best thing Oregon can do is continue to win, with a decent schedule the rest of the way, and win the Pac 12 with one loss.

Oregon hasn’t been tested since that game against Auburn like it will be this weekend. Justin Wilcox always has a competitive defense and will make Justin Herbert and co. earn every yard they get. Last weekend against Stanford, a team that has given Oregon a fair amount of trouble through the years, the Ducks didn’t look great. Time will tell who the real Oregon Ducks are, and this weekend will help provide some clarity.
