1. No. 7 Auburn at No. 10 Florida (Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m. ET – CBS)

Much like two weeks ago when Notre Dame went to Georgia, there was never a doubt that this game was going to top the list this weekend. Both of these teams are undefeated and looking for a massive conference statement win while the division favorites ahead of them continue to cruise by weak opponents. This old school rivalry was played annually until 2002 and the teams have only met three times since then. While the players may not remember, the fans are certainly aware of how big this game is.

More from Saturday Blitz

Auburn was featured on this list last week because they hosted Mississippi State, who I thought could be a bit of a pesky opponent during a look ahead week for the Tigers. Well, Auburn answered the call and put up three touchdowns before everybody could get to their seats in Jordan Hare. This game is in a much less friendly confine for the Tigers.

Florida is without starting quarterback Feleipe Franks, but backup Kyle Trask has started the last couple of games and is finally comfortable after a tune-up against Towson last weekend. The quarterback battle between Trask and Auburn true freshman Bo Nix might be what decides this one. And both are facing defenses that are some of the best in the country.

This is the kind of game Dan Mullen has won so far in his tenure at Florida. The odds are stacked against him, his team is outmanned in vital areas, but he’s the kind of coach that can make the game muddy and find a way to be in it at the end.

Auburn has looked extremely sharp this year and has probably the most impressive resume so far with wins over Oregon and at Texas A&M. Nothing is going to surprise this team anymore.

This matchup comes down to who can exploit the other side’s weaknesses. Nix finally put up good passing numbers against Mississippi State last weekend, but Florida’s secondary is a different beast entirely. And Auburn has arguably the best defensive line in the country who will stand tall in front of an underwhelming Gators rushing attack.

It’s going to be a long week leading up to this game and much will be written about it. The winner could jump into the top 5 of the AP Poll and will be one step closer to a spot in the College Football Playoff.
