Tennessee Football: 5 bold predictions for October 2019
4. Poor culture, lack of discipline will continue to bring trouble
Tennessee has always had culture problems, but under Jeremy Pruitt the issues have sky rocketed. What was suppose to be a culture changing and rebuilding process has turned into an absolute nightmare.
On Aug. 24, cornerback, Bryce Thompson, was overheard arguing with a woman on the UT campus. This lead to a suspension from the football team and a domestic assault case in court. It was also rumored that Thompson made comments about threatening to “shoot up” the campus.
Thompson has previous records to showcase his off the wall temper, including a restraining order made by another female in 2018.
Charges were eventually dismissed and Thompson made the trip to Florida and played. To outside knowledge, no punishment, other than the short lived suspension, was given. That looks real nice, Mr. Pruitt.
Another interesting event, Jeremy Banks, linebacker for the Vols, was arrested due to an outstanding warranty. Banks failed to pay a previous ticket, so when he was pulled over on the UT campus authority had no choice but to make the arrest.
Banks made many unnecessary comments during the arrest, including a statement aimed towards the arresting officers that suggested that where Banks is from that “[they] shoot at cops”.
Coach Pruitt joined in on the conversation via phone and made the following statements:
- “This is the silliest **** I’ve ever seen in my life.”
- “I’ve worked at four places, they never had no crap like this except for here.”
- “People usually say, ‘Hey, something is not right here’.”
Very classy, coach. Very classy.
