College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 7 – Florida climbs
By Zach Bigalke
Wake Forest bounced up into the AP Top 25 right before their first bye week thanks to a 27-24 win at Boston College in Week 5. That victory pushed the Demon Deacons to 5-0 in the standings for the first time since they won the ACC in 2006, and it sets up Dave Clawson’s crew with the best chance to threaten Clemson this season.
The Demon Deacons have won seven straight dating back to the end of 2018 thanks to what currently rates as the best offense in the ACC. Jamie Newman has quietly become one of the top quarterbacks in the country, ranking in the top 10 in both passing yards and passing touchdowns through the first month of the year. On defense, Carlos Basham Jr. already has four sacks on a disruptive defensive line.
Wake Forest doesn’t have to leave Winston-Salem until November. They get back to the field for a pair of home games against Louisville and Florida State before taking their second bye week before Halloween. NC State comes to Groves Stadium on November 2 to set up the homestretch for the Demon Deacons.
