Appalachian State took the field on Wednesday night in Lafayette in a battle between Sun Belt division leaders. The Mountaineers held the nation’s best backfield attack in check, allowing just 123 yard on the ground to an offense that came in averaging more than 300 rushing yards per game. The result was a close 17-7 win on the road that kept Appalachian State undefeated at 5-0.

Zac Thomas was 11-of-17 passing the ball for 147 yards, and he added 15 carries for 63 yards and a pair of rushing scores. Darrynton Evans chipped in 69 yards on the ground, and kicker Chandler Staton belted a 40-yard field goal to secure the final margin over the Ragin’ Cajuns.

With the win, look for the unbeaten Mountaineers to climb up into the AP Top 25 for the first time this season after featuring in the realm of Others Receiving Votes the past few weeks. Eliah Drinkwitz and his staff return home to Boone for a Week 8 showdown against UL-Monroe that will afford the opportunity to consolidate poll position heading into the final week of October.
