3. Clay Helton is all but gone

Coach Clay Helton is in his fifth season leading the USC Trojans football program, and frankly, things are not going great. USC is not the type of school that typically has patience with the head coaches of its football teams.

Clay Helton’s best season with USC was in 2017 when they finished with a record of 11-3, won the Pac-12, and lost in the Cotton Bowl to Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes. Since then, things have been nothing but downhill for the Trojans. Last season, USC went 5-7 and failed to make a bowl game. This year doesn’t appear to be going much better.

The Trojans still have No. 18 Arizona State, No. 13 Oregon, California, and UCLA left on their schedule. The games against the Sun Devils and the Ducks are very likely to end in losses. Cal’s only losses are to Arizona State and Oregon and have wins against Ole Miss and Washington. And UCLA, well, that game can go either way on any given year.

There’s a strong chance that USC finishes the year 5-7 and misses the chance at a bowl game once again. Given that scenario, there isn’t really any chance Clay Helton isn’t fired at the end of the year.
