Wisconsin Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over Michigan State

3. Jack Coan proved himself

When you watch the Badgers play offense there are certain things you know you are going to see.

You’ll see a fullback, and a lot of the I-formation. There are those huge offensive linemen. Of course there’s Jonathan Taylor. It’s a lot of handoffs and power football. That’s been their identity offensively since Barry Alvarez took over the Badgers program over 20 years ago.

The question coming into this game was whether or not Jack Coan could make plays if call upon to do so. He hasn’t had to throw the ball a lot because the run game has been so dominant.

On Saturday, the run game wasn’t dominant. Jonathan Taylor was held to 3.1 yards per carry, and Coan did a fantastic job of throwing to get first downs when they were in passing situations. He only had three incomplete passes and most important zero interceptions.
