Wake Forest Football: 3 takeaways from upset loss to Louisville
By Dante Pryor
1. Having two quarterbacks isn’t a bad thing
Tonight let us know why it is good to have two quarterbacks. Louisville starting quarterback Micale Cunningham (recent name change) left the game with an injury, and true freshman quarterback Evan Conley came in and the Cardinals didn’t miss a beat. In fact, he scored the touchdown late in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for Louisville.
Conley racked up almost 300 yards of total offense on his own. Scott Satterfield has to be happy that he followed him to Louisville.
For Wake Forest, Sam Hartman — the quarterback that battled Jamie Newman for the starting spot this spring and summer — came in and steered the Wake Forest offense. Hartman’s situation is different from Conley in that he lost his job to Jamie Newman last season.
Now, without knowing how long Newman might be out, he’s the man and he played well with 172 yards and two touchdowns on 9-of-15 passing.
Wake might have an advantage since Hartman was in the system last year. But the awesome thing about young quarterbacks is they don’t know what they don’t know. What’s good is that both teams have good competent starting quarterbacks.
