3. Jack Coan can’t go downfield

Jack Coan is the quarterback that you give the playbook to, and he absorbs it like a sponge. When it’s time to put the game plan together Coan is the quarterback that will do everything that is asked of him. Is Coan, however, the quarterback that can make a play when you need a play? Is he the quarterback that can improvise and make a play when everything breaks down? So far, the answer is no.

Can you blame Coan? He hands the ball off to the best running back in college football the last three years. The last of a dying bread; a running back that’s the center of an offense. Head coach Paul Chryst is conservative when it comes to his play-calling. That’s the downfall of the Badgers in this game.

Not only has Coan not proven that he can throw the ball downfield, his receivers can’t separate — at least we haven’t seen it — and it seems as if the Chryst and the offensive staff don’t want to.

That won’t fly in Columbus. They have to push the football down the field if they want any opportunity to win this game. Let’s see if that’s in the game plan Saturday afternoon.
