College Football Rankings: Projected Top 25, Week 10 – Big 12 gets wild
By Zach Bigalke
Oklahoma became the latest top-10 program to suffer defeat this season, falling 48-41 at Kansas State to drop from the ranks fo the unbeaten before the end of October. The Sooners actually clawed their way back from a 25-point deficit early in the fourth quarter, but a late onside kick recovery was reversed on replay and time ran out for Lincoln Riley’s team on the road.
Jalen Hurts accounted for 491 of Oklahoma’s 497 total yards of offense, as Kansas State rendered the Sooners backfield a non-factor and forced everything onto the shoulders of the transfer quarterback from Alabama. The Wildcats offense, on the other hand, was perfectly balanced with 213 rushing yards and 213 passing yards as the Oklahoma defense struggled both on the ground and in the air.
Oklahoma has a bye to open up November play as they try to clean up the shortcomings that were exposed by the Wildcats in Week 9. When they return to the field, the Sooners get Iowa State at home before a tricky road trip to Baylor, and they will also have TCU and Oklahoma state to deal with before the end of the regular season. Look for the Sooners to drop out of the top 10 of the AP Top 25 this week after dropping to the land of one-loss programs.
