College Football Rankings: Projected Top 25, Week 10 – Big 12 gets wild
By Zach Bigalke
LSU held on for a 23-20 victory over No. 9 Auburn in Week 9, giving the Bayou Bengals one of the best resumes in college football at this point of the season. Ed Orgeron’s team is currently 8-0 heading into November with wins over three different teams that were ranked in the top 10 at the time of their showdown.
Joe Burrow had a huge game against Auburn, throwing for 321 yards and a touchdown on 32-of-42 passing. It was hardly Burrow’s biggest game of the year so far, but his performance was buttressed by 136 rushing yards by Clyde Edwards-Helaire in a workmanlike performance that included 51 receiving yards as well. The LSU defense held Auburn to just 16 first downs and 287 total yards of offense in the win.
Now LSU turns their attention to a bye week as they prepare for a No. 1-vs.-No. 2 showdown against Alabama in two weeks in Tuscaloosa. That November 9 showdown will determine which of the two undefeated powerhouses will head to Atlanta this year for the SEC championship — and which remains a College Football Playoff threat in defeat.
