College Football Rankings: Projected Top 25, Week 10 – Big 12 gets wild
By Zach Bigalke
Alabama didn’t have Tua Tagovailoa for their big SEC West showdown against Arkansas in Week 9. It didn’t matter, as backup quarterback Mac Jones threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns before halftime and finished with 235 yards and three scores on 18-of-22 passing. Jones and the Crimson Tide built up a 41-0 lead at the intermission that slowed down in the second half but still resulted in a 48-7 rout by the end of the contest.
With the decisive win, Alabama ensured they will remain atop the AP Top 25 entering November and in good position to take the top spot in the first College Football Playoff selection committee rankings. The Crimson Tide racked up 459 yards of offense against the Razorbacks in front of a home crowd at Bryant-Denny Stadium, staying among the last handful of unbeaten squads.
In addition to the big day by Jones, Najee Harris ran for 86 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 13 carries in the blowout. The Alabama defense did its part as well, holding Arkansas to just 213 total yards of offense in the blowout.
Now Alabama prepares to host the first regular-season battle of the top two teams in the AP Top 25 since the Crimson Tide and LSU played in the 2011 regular season. That year, the Tigers won 9-6 in overtime in Tuscaloosa — but Alabama got the last laugh with a 21-0 follow-up in the BCS championship game.
