College Football Rankings: Projected Top 25, Week 10 – Big 12 gets wild
By Zach Bigalke
San Diego State was hovering on the cusp of the AP Top 25 entering Week 9, and a solid performance on the road in Sin City against UNLV ought to be enough to push the Aztecs back into the rankings heading into the final month of the regular season. Rocky Long’s team went to Las Vegas and opened up a double-digit halftime lead.
Barring a massive turnaround by a Rebels team that struggled to generate yards outside their one scoring drive in the first half, San Diego State will be back in the AP Top 25 for the first time since October 2017. Ryan Agnew went 4-of-6 for 83 yards and a touchdown through one quarter of play, and the Aztecs never looked back from there. As long as trends hold, a 7-1 San Diego State team will get a fresh look from AP voters.
As they head into a bye week, San Diego State will be in perfect position to consolidate their spot in the poll heading into a tough November stretch. Games against Nevada, Fresno State, and Hawaii will determine whether the Aztecs are contenders or pretenders in the Mountain West struggle and consequently i the Group of Five race.
