Another weekend, another College Football Playoff contender loses to an unranked opponent. Oklahoma’s loss wasn’t the only big upset from Week 9.
Following in line with Georgia’s loss to South Carolina two weeks ago and Wisconsin’s setback against Illinois last week, Oklahoma became another Top 6 team to lose to an unranked and unsuspecting squad.
The unranked Wildcats used a dominant third quarter to defeat the Sooners, who showed life in the fourth quarter in nearly engineering an improbable comeback. Kansas State rushed for more than 200 yards and limited Jalen Hurts to just one passing touchdown, although he did throw for almost 400 yards.
For Saturday’s upset victims, several teams are now finding themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the College Football Playoff. Texas may fall out of the Top 25 altogether after suffering its third loss of the season. Notre Dame looked hapless against the heavy rain and the Wolverine running backs it faced on Saturday night. Oklahoma certainly isn’t out of the picture, but its path to the final four teams became much murkier.
Could another Top 10 team lose to a serious underdog in Week 10 to make it four weeks in a row? No. 7 Oregon travels to face USC on Saturday night after No. 9 Utah travels to face Washington. No. 4 Clemson will host Wofford — OK, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch.
Here are the top upsets from Week 9.
