4. Tylan Wallace becomes a favorite for the Biletnikoff

Redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders has improved in his first year as a collegiate starter. There’s a lot of unique pressure on a quarterback, and Sanders has shown some commendable poise in running first-year offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson’s system with OSU.

Sanders’ success as a quarterback, of course, will continue to pay huge dividends for his star deep threat: junior wide receiver Tylan Wallace.

Through the first eight games of the 2019 season, Wallace has 53 catches for 903 yards and eight touchdowns. His mark for receiving yards is the fourth-best in the nation, and is the best out of all Power 5 wide receivers.

As of now, Wallace’s main competition for end-of-season recognition as the nation’s best wide receiver seems to be LSU’s Justin Jefferson, Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb, Alabama’s Devonta Smith, and Arkansas State’s Omar Bayless. A standout performance in a big game, say, against TCU or against OU would go a long way in improving Wallace’s candidacy for the Biletnikoff Award.

As long as Sanders keeps developing in the pocket and the ground attack keeps OSU’s offense as a formidable two-pronged threat, there’s reason to believe that Wallace will be named as a finalist, and perhaps even a favorite, to win the award for the nation’s best wide receiver.
