2. OSU comes agonizingly close to winning another Bedlam

As OSU fans, the end of this month is shaping up to be another bitter, cold Bedlam disappointment. Let’s face it: both OU and OSU feature high-octane offenses that are among the nation’s leaders in passing yards. Both feature talented quarterbacks, somewhat porous defenses, and many playmakers among offensive skill positions.

OU is once again the conference’s contender for the College Football Playoff, and OSU has the makings of a trendy, plucky underdog. Does any of this sound familiar?

Since OSU’s glorious 44-10 Bedlam victory in the 2011 season, when the Cowboys were marching toward a berth in the BCS National Championship Game, OSU has lost six of its last seven meetings against the Sooners. The overall series is just as bad, with OU claiming an 88-18-7 all-time advantage over the Pokes.

This year’s Bedlam showdown is shaping up to be another valiant Cowboys effort that frustratingly comes up short against their in-state rival. Last year was a 48-47 setback in Norman. In 2017, it was a 62-52 track meet in Stillwater that OSU fans are still trying to figure out. Save for the 38-35 miraculous, punt return-enabled comeback win in 2014, there’s been precious little for OSU fans to feel proud about concerning OU in the last seven years.

Expect to hear some last-minute injury update or a good feeling heading into Bedlam at Boone Pickens Stadium this month. And expect it to be all for naught as OSU comes up just short against a talent-laden Sooners squad led by head coach Lincoln Riley.
