Pac-12 Football: 3 bold predictions for November 2019
By Dante Pryor
2. There will be no coaches fired
Chip Kelly’s seat was en fuego after their 48-31 loss to Oregon State. Since that loss, they’ve won three in a row and needs to win two of their last three to get to a bowl. That didn’t seem too likely when they were 1-5. The Bruins are out-scoring their opponents 35-20, on average, during their three-game winning streak.
To get into a bowl game, they’d have to upset either USC or Utah to pull it off, and the Trojans are really banged up so the Victory Bell could punch the Bruins’ ticket.
Kevin Sumlin’s seat wasn’t ever really hot, but he’s had his struggles this year. He inherited a paper-thin team that only goes two-deep in several key positions. Not only that, he came late when named head coach. Wildcat Nation knows Sumlin can recruit, and he needs time to do so. He’ll get that time.
There are some other coaches that might raise an eyebrow with a repeat of this season. David Shaw has led the Stanford Cardinal to their best run in school history arguably, and Cal has been ravaged by injuries, so Justin Wilcox is safe as well.
The coaching carousel is going to spin, but not in the Pac-12.
