2. Clyde Edwards-Helaire was the unsung hero

Joe Burrow is going to get all of the love in the recaps of this game — as he should; Burrow had an outstanding game. If he wins the Heisman Trophy, he can look back at this game being the one game that put him at the Downtown Athletic Club.

However, the unsung hero of this game was running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire who had 103 yards rushing and 77 yards receiving.

Those numbers don’t tell the full story of his impact on this game. All 103 of his rushing yards not only kept the Crimson Tide defense honest, so many of his 20 carries went for first downs to move the chains, and he had three rushing touchdowns.

It was apparent that the Crimson Tide keyed in on the Tigers’ trio of receivers. Edwards-Helaire ran great routes out of the backfield, and won his man-to-man matchups with who ever covered him whether it was a safety or a cornerback. Most importantly, when the Crimson Tide brought pressure, Clyde Edwards-Helaire picked up the blitz brilliantly giving Burrow extra time to throw the ball.

Burrow might be in New York City giving his acceptance speech as he wins his Heisman Trophy. When he’s thanking everyone, he better look back at this game and thank Edwards-Helaire.
