1. The future

If you told me a few months ago that the Baylor Bears would have the second-best chance to represent the Big 12 in the 2019 College Football Playoff, I would have said you’re crazy. You had Texas who was allegedly “back” and an incredible Oklahoma team led by Jalen Hurts in the same conference. Entering this game, I would have agree with the initial statement.

But now, who knows?

Baylor still has to play Texas next week, who is coming off a loss to Iowa State. However, the game is at home for the Bears which has proven to be very beneficial. Assuming they win against the Longhorns and again the following week against Kansas (who nearly beat Texas but is still pretty bad), Baylor will likely have to face Oklahoma or Oklahoma State, again, in the Big 12 Championship Game.

Oklahoma has TCU and Oklahoma State on the horizon, which are both very winnable games. Of course, the match against the Cowboys will likely be very close.

We likely just witnessed a preview of the Big 12 Championship Game. Winning against the same team in the same season is very difficult. Just ask any Texas fan how that went last season — or an Oklahoma fan if you want a nicer response.

The conference champion will still have one loss. Given how these teams have been ranked by the College Football Playoff committee, it doesn’t appear as though either of these teams would get in regardless of the winning the conference.
