College Football Playoff Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
Appalachian State gave their fans a scare in the first quarter, spotting Georgia State a 21-7 lead after Zac Thomas threw an interception that resulted in points the opposite direction. But the Mountaineers responded with a touchdown a minute and a half after the pick-six, and held a 35-21 lead by halftime of what turned into a 56-27 rout of the Panthers on Saturday evening.
Thomas rebounded from that costly interception to finish 19-of-31 for 256 passing yards and four touchdowns. Corey Xavier Sutton was the biggest beneficiary, snagging eight receptions for 173 yards and three scores. Darrynton Evans scored on a run and on a pass play as he finished with 132 total yards from scrimmage.
After earning the last spot in the College Football Playoff Top 25 last week, the Mountaineers will remain locked in the committee’s list this week and even climb a few spots as one of a shrinking number of one-loss teams throughout the FBS. All that stands in the way of hosting the Sun Belt title game for the second straight year is a home date with Texas State and the regular-season finale at Troy on Black Friday.
