College Football Playoff Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
Virginia Tech played their way into the College Football Playoff committee’s Top 25 this week after improving to 7-3 with a 45-0 shutout on the road against Georgia Tech. The Hokies defense held the Yellow Jackets to 134 total yards of offense and forced a pair of James Graham interceptions as they kept themselves in the hunt to win the ACC Coastal this season.
When they had the football, the Hokies generated the ultimate committee effort. Hendon Hooker went 9-of-13 for 159 passing yards and a touchdown, while Quincy Patterson II chipped in a couple of complete passes for 64 additional yards. In total, Virginia Tech was 11-of-16 throwing the ball for 223 yards and the Hooker scoring strike. The ground game saw nobody finish with 50 individual rushing yards yet the team racking up 238 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Next week the Hokies host Pittsburgh in a showdown that will determine whether Virginia Tech stays alive in the division race. A win over the Panthers will set up the battle for the Commonwealth Cup against Virginia as a division championship game that affords the winner the opportunity to play Clemson in Charlotte on the first Saturday of December for the ACC title.
