College Football Playoff Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
With Jaylon Henderson starting at quarterback, Boise State was already up 28-0 before the end of the first quarter against New Mexico. The redshirt senior got his first career start and went 7-of-9 for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns in just the first 15 minutes as he helped guide the Broncos to a big first half.
Henderson’s contribution, along with 73 rushing yards by George Holani and a 17-yard touchdown run by Octavius Evans, allowed the Broncos to take a four-touchdown lead into the locker room at the break. They look sure to win, barring a miraculous comeback by a Lobos team that entered the game 2-7 and winless in Mountain West play. As long as they hold on for the win against New Mexico, they will stay atop the MWC Mountain standings ahead of Air Force and Utah State.
Hovering right behind the two American Athletic Conference division leaders, Boise State will be right in striking distance for the automatic spot in a New Year’s Six bowl granted to the highest-rated Group of Five champion as rated by the College Football Playoff selection committee. The Broncos close out the regular season on the road at Utah State and at Colorado State over the last two weekends of November.
