2. Texas isn’t back — yet

There are certain criteria that need to be met before a team can be considered elite. Texas has quite a few boxes to check before it can be considered back.

It’s quite baffling the lack of depth the Texas Longhorns are suffering from this season. There are three positions the Longhorns should have no problems filling at least four deep with quality talent: offensive line, defensive line and running back. The fact they don’t have a quality running back other than Keaontay Ingram is a direct reflection on Tom Herman’s recruiting and development.

This is year three for Herman which means this is his third recruiting cycle and second solo cycle. Usually you inherit the first class from the outgoing coach. Although that class wasn’t fully his, it had some really good players. This second class is all his but where are the impact players from that group?

Losses like these are inexcusable when you are attempting to turn the corner and become an elite program. This is no slight to the Bears, but Texas scoring only three points most of the game is unforgivable.

Elite programs don’t get thrashed the way Texas did tonight. Even when they are short handed, they might look flawed, but they don’t get dominated the way that Texas did.
