3. Ian Book must exploit one of BC’s greatest weaknesses

While college football still places an emphasis on running the ball, football as we know it remains a quarterback-driven sport. As a result, there’s no wonder why there’s such a strong correlation between quarterback Ian Book’s play and the overall performance of the team. Just as the Irish have enjoyed quite the stretch over the past few games, so has Book.

With that said, there’s no real telling when, if ever, Book will come down to earth this season. The season has seemed a little upside down at times this season, especially in regard to inviting matchups that end up being anything but.

The potential for such a phenomenon remains in play this weekend as Book and the Irish offense prepares to face a Boston College secondary that has allowed the sixth-most passing yards per game in the nation. The matchup remains inviting, but the consequences for failure are particularly costly.

While Boston College’s defense isn’t anything to write home about as it pertains to the run game, we’ve seen Notre Dame’s rushing attack falter against less competent opponents. If the Irish want to make sure that the outcome isn’t in question from the get-go, it’ll start with Book continuing his recently dominant play.
