College Football Playoff Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 14 – Utah sneaks in
By Zach Bigalke
Iowa won their eighth game of 2019 with a workmanlike 19-10 victory over Illinois at Kinnick Stadium in early Saturday action. The Hawkeyes held Illinois quarterbacks Brandon Peters and Matt Robinson to 144 combined yards on 18-of-34 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions. Peters also coughed up a fumble as the Hawkeyes won the turnover battle 3-1.
Nate Stanley did toss one interception of his own, but he also threw for 308 yards as he completed 18 of his 35 attempts. The Iowa backfield continued to struggle, as Tyler Goodson’s 38 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries led the team as the Hawkeyes finished with only 79 total yards on the ground.
The Big Ten West is out of reach at this point for Kirk Ferentz’s team, and a New Year’s Six bid is out of the question. Even with those goals out of reach, the Hawkeyes can still get to 10 wins this season if they close out with wins over Nebraska in Lincoln and over whoever they end up playing in the postseason.
