2. Tyler Huntley deserves an invitation to the Heisman ceremony

Tyler Huntley wasn’t perfect by any means on the road in Tucson, as he threw his second interception of the 2019 season. He still finished 19-of-23 for 211 yards and a touchdown to make up for the pick. At the same time, other top quarterbacks around the country have thrown more interceptions at this point of the year.

Jalen Hurts has tossed five picks on 248 attempts, averaging just under 50 throws per interception. Joe Burrow has thrown six interceptions on 341 attempts, putting his average around 57 throws between interceptions. Huntley’s two interceptions through 11 games have come on 232 attempts, an average of 116 attempts per pick that makes Huntley twice as efficient as either Heisman front-runner in terms of protecting the football.

He entered the week with a pass efficiency rating ranked in the top five of FBS quarterbacks, and after opening the week 19 points behind Jalen Hurts he closed the gap some after a down day by the Oklahoma quarterback coupled with a strong day despite the interception by Huntley.

While Burrow is the clear front-runner at this point, and Hurts is the 1B selection after Tua Tagovailoa suffered a season-ending knee injury. At this point, however, Huntley is playing as well as either star quarterback or any other signal caller around the country. For pulling off the feat at a traditional middleweight, Huntley’s season has been all the more impressive and at the very least deserves an invitation to Manhattan on the second weekend of December.
