1. Even with no playoff implications, this game matters

With the onset of the College Football Playoff, some wonder if rivalry games still matter. In context, rivalry games might not matter much on a national level.

However, rivalry games have always mattered regionally. That’s the depth of their importance as well. This game specifically was played between two teams with no playoff implications and for the Ole Miss Rebels, no bowl aspirations this season.

This game had it all; we even had cornerback Tyler Williams playing for Mississippi State simply because he wasn’t offered by Ole Miss. There are many players who played with and against one another in high school in this game. The raw emotion of young men crying on the sidelines on both side prove how much this game matters.

This game might not matter in other parts of the country but it doesn’t have to because it matters in Mississippi.
