Ohio State Football: 3 takeaways from dominant rivalry win over Michigan
2. Jim Harbaugh is safe — for now
It seems like after every loss to Ohio State, Jim Harbaugh’s job security is brought into question, and appropriately so. Coach Harbaugh was hired to push the Wolverines over-the-top, make them a legitimate contender in the Big Ten, and beat Ohio State.
In reality, he has hardly made them a contender in the conference and definitely hasn’t put them over-the-top. Lastly, this is Michigan’s eighth consecutive loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes, with their last win coming in 2011.
Coach Harbaugh’s moderate performance at the top of the Michigan Football program is perfectly explained by his inability to properly develop an elite quarterback. Shae Patterson is just another example of this struggle. Patterson’s numbers are extremely similar to last year’s with a slightly worse completion percentage. Admittedly, he played decently in this game. However, in order to beat Ohio State, compete for the Big Ten title, and make the College Football Playoff, Michigan needs a special athlete at quarterback.
Jim Harbaugh is just one quarterback away from taking his team to the next level. And therefore, Michigan should continue to be patient with him, and trust that he will eventually get someone under center who can make the team complete.
