2. Colorado isn’t quite ready yet

This has been quite the roller-coaster first season for head coach Mel Tucker and the Colorado Buffaloes.

Colorado was prepared and fired up for this game. They came out playing like they wanted to go to a bowl game but they were over-matched and out-manned in this game. The game plan was good they just didn’t have the personnel to execute well enough to win.

The most glaring mismatch was upfront and in the secondary. The Utah defensive line had Colorado quarterback Steven Montez under duress all night long. The Utes had six sacks on the night and the Buffalo run game averaged merely 1.9 yards per rush.

The Buffalo wide receivers had trouble separating from the Utah secondary as well. The Buffalo wide receivers could only muster three plays of 20 yards one of which was a touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter.
