College Football Playoff 2019: Projected top 4 after Week 14
2. LSU (12-0)
I’ll start by saying that I think LSU are the best team in the nation. However, this is how I think the selection committee will roll out the top four on Tuesday night, not how I would have them ranked.
After losing their number one spot to Ohio State last week, the Tigers came out against Texas A&M with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. They proved it in style in a dominant 50-7 win over the Aggies.
The first half was an offensive masterpiece from LSU. Since changing scheme over the summer, the Tigers have been glorious to behold with the ball in Joe Burrow’s hands. This week it was JaMarr Chase’s turn to be the focus, with two touchdowns and 197 yards, but the array of offensive weapons this season has been astounding.
Whilst Burrow used the night to further etch his name on the Heisman Trophy, the defense had the shutdown performance we’ve needed to see all season. They limited the Aggies to just 169 yards and intercepted Kellen Mond three times.
It was the sort of all-round dominant performance that defines greatness in football. However, with Texas A&M being an unranked program with just seven wins, it won’t hold the same sway as it may have when the Aggies were ranked earlier in the season.
A similar performance against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game would be a different matter entirely.
