3. Baylor avoided looking ahead to OU

Heading into Week 14’s matchup with Kansas, one might have considered that Baylor might overlook its opponent. Maybe the Bears would be distracted by blowing the 25-point lead to the Sooners and with upcoming thoughts of revenge. Maybe Matt Rhule’s squad would be too keen on the showdown in Arlington with the chance to make things right.

Kansas, too, has shown that it’s capable of playing the spoiler role. The Jayhawks led late in its 41-31 Week 13 loss to Iowa State. They also came within a last-second field goal from defeating Texas in a 50-48 loss. Somehow, they engineered a 48-24 win against Boston College earlier in the season, the team’s first road win against a Power Five team in more than a decade.

Any fears of the Bears losing ground to an upset-minded Kansas team were dispelled fairly quickly. JaMycal Hasty’s 13-yard touchdown run led the Bears to a 21-0 lead before the end of the first quarter. Baylor led 48-0 midway through the third quarter before Kansas even got its first points on the board.
