Where will Notre Dame football land this postseason? Will they return to the New Year’s Six or will Brian Kelly’s squad land elsewhere?

Notre Dame is in a unique space in college football’s postseason. They are technically still an independent, but are an “extended” member of the ACC in football until 2037. That means two things for the Fighting Irish: they play an abbreviated ACC schedule, and have access to their ACC tie-ins until 2037 unless they go to the playoff.

In order for the Irish to take an ACC tie-in, they have to be within one win of the potential qualifying ACC team.

This year, the Irish won’t be one of the four semi-finalists for the College Football Playoff. They are, however, 10-2 this season and will be one of the teams in consideration for a New Year’s Six bowl game.

The Irish are ranked No. 15 in the current playoff ranking. With so many teams ahead of them, there’s a possibility the Irish end up out of the New Year’s Six and in a lesser bowl. If that’s the case look for the Irish in the Gator Bowl, the Camping World Bowl or the Citrus Bowl — most likely the Camping World Bowl.

We’ll look at the most likely landing spots for Notre Dame in the New Year’s Six.
