College Football Playoff Rankings 2019: Projected final Top 25
By Zach Bigalke
Boise State did as much as they could to try to convince the College Football Playoff selection committee to put them in the Cotton Bowl as the top Group of Five program. The Broncos took down Hawaii 31-10 in a game that looked far wider than the three-touchdown gap indicates. Winning the Mountain West after a 12-1 campaign would normally be enough to get named as the top Group of Five team, but this year Boise State will fall just short.
Jaylon Henderson was a respectable 20-of-29 for 212 yards and two touchdowns through the air. The third-string quarterback added 51 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground as he ably piloted the Broncos attack. Boise State also got a solid performance from George Holani, who is in position to top 1000 rushing yards in the bowl game after racking up 67 yards against the Rainbow Warriors.
Passing the AAC champion is going to be tough, given that it was two ranked programs playing one another for that Group of Five crown. The College Football Playoff selection committee is going to bump up Boise State a few spots, but will keep them behind Memphis as the Broncos barely miss a chance to play in a major bowl game for the first time since the 2014 Fiesta Bowl.
