3. Mike Norvell was an institution at Memphis

In four seasons at the University of Memphis, Mike Norvell had four offensive coordinators and two defensive coordinators. He was the institution at Memphis for these years. For all that time, Memphis wasn’t able to afford to pay their coaches the top salary that Norvell taught them at, so he had to continue to adapt each year to a revolving staff.

With all that changeover, Memphis continually improved each year under Norvell. He’s a great coach and grew the Tiger program into one of the best in the group of five thanks to his coaching and adaptability.

Not only in his coaching staff, but Norvell showed a real ability to adapt to his roster better than anyone else. When Riley Ferguson and Anthony Miller were in Memphis, the Tigers had a heavy passing attack. When they left, Darrell Henderson took over on the ground.

Now at Florida State, he will adapt even less. Norvell will be at the top of the food chain, and can bring on his own staff that will probably stick around for a few years. With that amount of consistency in the program, it will bode well for the Seminoles.
